What is ESE?
ESE stands for Engineering Services Examination and is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for the class 1 officers in the various department of the Indian government such as Indian Railways, Defence service of Engineers, Central Water engineering, Central Engineering Service, Telecommunications, etc.
Union Public Service Commission renamed IES (Indian Engineering Service) to ESE (Engineering Service Examination) after the exam of 2018.

ESE Exam Eligibility Criteria – 2019
Educational Qualification: Candidates should have passed UG with
- Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.
- Electrical Engineering.
- Mechanical Engineering.
- Civil Engineering.
Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and Maximum 30 years, and the age relaxation is as per the government rule.
Selection Process: Selection of candidates will be made on the basis of the prelim exam, mains exam followed by the interview.
Application Fee: Application fee (Fee Except for Female/SC/ST/PH candidates) of the engineering service examination is Rs. 200/- only.
